The southern coast of Sweden is vulnerable for coastal erosion and flooding. The coastal area of southern Sweden is highly populated with a lot of infrastructure and building close to water. The region has been identified as a national risk area for flooding and coastal erosion. SGI has developed a coastal vulnerability index for the coastal area in Skåne and Halland. SGI has developed a vulnerability index focusing on coastal erosion, the method is a semi-automatic GIS-based vulnerability mapping method, that presents the vulnerability on an illustrative and colored map. The vulnerability index could be used by Swedish municipalities, in their planning process.
